Always Tired ?

The human body was designed to perform various physical and mental activities. In doing that, the body will naturally weaken as a result of spending energy. If energy gets spent, a person will feel tiredness or fatigue. In the medical context, fatigue or exhaustion, whether in the physical or mental sense of the word, is the state of the body wherein a person feels almost unable to continue performing a certain task using his or her normal level of capability.

Almost any person is already familiar with the feeling of being tired. This is a natural occurrence in the body which is also a signal for you to get rest. If your body is constantly lacking in energy, you are also always feeling tired. If you are always tired no matter what time of the day it is, the best thing to do is to first consult with a doctor. There are several reasons why a person will feel always tired. In this article, you will know more about fatigue and the causes that will lead you to experience over fatigue.

What is fatigue?

Fatigue is a feeling of tiredness which may either be work-induced or the result of a disease or viral infection. It can be described as a state of being lethargic. Fatigue is classified into two kinds: physical fatigue and mental fatigue.

Physical fatigue is a feeling of weakness in the muscles. This may be the result of the exhaustion of the muscles due to heavy exercise or the weakness of the internal organs and processes in the body. In physical fatigue, a person will typically experience some degree of incapability to perform a certain physical activity with full strength.

On the other hand, mental fatigue involves the state of temporary weakness in a persons mental abilities. It does not necessarily involve feelings of weakness in the muscles. Unlike physical fatigue, mental fatigue is the result of mental stress, overstimulation, understimulation, or a disease in the brain. A person who experiences mental fatigue will also begin to show somnolence or excessive sleepiness, and decreased consciousness and concentration.

Different causes of tiredness

When a person is always tired, whether in the physical or mental sense, there are several factors at play that brought his or her feelings of excessive tiredness. It may involve a persons lifestyle, quality of health, stress, or mental and emotional issues.

How your lifestyle can affect feelings of tiredness

There is a link between a persons lifestyle and his or her feeling of tiredness. It may be due to a persons lack of good sleeping habits or the time which the person allocates for relaxation. If a person lacks sleep, he or she will naturally feel tired because the brain and the muscles are continuously worked up during the day. Both physical fatigue and mental fatigue can be experienced if a person lacks sleep. Fatigue is something to be expected if you are not getting enough sleep because the body is not given the chance to rest. Having too much sleep may also lead you to feel like you are always tired. Understimulating the activity in your brain and muscles may cause you to feel drowsy in the morning.

Poor management of stress is also a critical factor. If your schedule is very demanding, your body is also pushed to perform to its maximum capability. The reason why you feel always tired when you are stressed is because both the mind and the body are being drained of energy even though it is in need of rest.

How your quality of health can affect feelings of tiredness

If you are always tired even after your efforts to manage stress and practice a good sleep cycle, it may be because you are suffering from a sickness. Anemia is one of the common reasons that could explain why you feelalways tired. Anemia is the deficiency in the amount of red blood cells or hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is responsible for carrying oxygen to the different areas of your body. If the levels of hemoglobin is less than the normal amount required for the body, this condition may also lead to hypoxia or the lack of oxygen. Therefore, a person will possibly feel exhausted when suffering from lack of oxygen due to anemia.

The lack of oxygen in anemia may be likened to feelings of exhaustion after a heavy workout. When you overdo exercise, you will feel tired because your body requires the oxygen it spent to give you energy during exercise.

Sleep apnea could be another reason why you feel always tired. A person with sleep apnea will experience abnormalities in breathing during sleep. An abnormality in breathing could manifest as shallow breathing or recurrent pauses in breathing. Sleep apnea is highly associated with excessive daytime sleepiness. This is because of the sleep disturbance brought about by sleep apnea. The symptoms of sleep apnea may continuously manifest without treatment. However, a person with sleep apnea will not discover about his or her condition unless a person is able to identify it for him.

How you can lessen excessive feelings of tiredness

A change in lifestyle should be in order if you feel like you are always tired. For instance, if you are used to staying up during the night, it is time that you practiced a good sleep cycle. Remember, a good sleep cycle is an 8-hour period of sleep. You should also eliminate the things that are keeping you from getting much needed rest during at night. Let your bedroom be the place where you can rest, not a place where you have to be working all night.

Also, manage your stress by finding ways to relax. Do something relaxing like a vacation or a little yoga or exercise; what is important is that you are feeling relaxed. Avoid pushing your body to work even when you already feel always tired.

Lastly, if you are aware that you are suffering a sickness that leads you to feel tired all the time, manage your condition well. You can do so by avoiding activities that will worsen your condition or by being constant in your medication. Do not cross out the need to consult your doctor every time you think you need something to treat your excessive tiredness.
